Abstract

Intertextuality refers to the interactive relationship between two or more texts through a process of evocation. It is one of the most prominent artistic techniques that enrich a text, adding depth and significance. Through intertextuality, the reader perceives connections between a given text and others that may precede or be contemporary with it. The Holy Qur’an, with its profound meanings and elevated themes, has long been a source of inspiration for writers and poets—from the time of its revelation to the present day—who incorporate its verses into their works to enhance their literary impact. This study seeks to examine comparative intertextuality in select verses of the Holy Qur’an alongside the Books of previous religious scriptures, exploring its key forms and applications, particularly the Torah. It examines the primary forms of intertextuality present and how they have been utilized. The intertextual relationship between sacred texts is not viewed as a flaw or a sign of inadequacy, nor does it diminish creativity or originality; rather, aims to foster dialogue, reconstruction, and utilization, leading to meaningful associations that carry essential insights and benefits. Religious intertextuality holds significant importance, as it strengthens the belief in the unity of divine revelations, affirming their common origin and divine source. Accordingly, this research investigates the intertextual connections between sacred scriptures—primarily the Qur’an and the Torah—highlighting key events, concepts, and figures found in these revered texts. It also identifies similarities and differences in themes, narratives, and personalities across these scriptures.
