The Scope of Communicating the Verses of the Holy Quran by the Holy Prophet (PBH)

Abstract

Objective:
The Holy Quran is a book of guidance for humanity, leading them from misguidance to righteousness and guiding them toward the paths of peace, security, and salvation in this world and the Hereafter. Since the very beginning of the revelation, Prophet Muhammad (PBH) was tasked with communicating these verses to the people of his time.
Methodology:
Some assert that the mission of the Holy Prophet (PBH) was restricted solely to the literal transmission of the revelation, arguing that the interpretation and derivation of rulings can rely exclusively on the Quranic text itself. Employing a descriptive-analytical methodology, this article seeks to examine the nature of exegesis (Tafsir) from the perspective of the Quranic verses. The aim is to elucidate the scope of Prophet Muhammad’s mission in communicating the revelation, as well as to establish the authority of the Prophetic Sunnah in interpreting the Quran and legislating Islamic rulings.
Results:
The findings of this study indicate that both the communication and the interpretation of the revelation were explicitly entrusted to the Holy Prophet (PBH) in accordance with the Quranic text. Multiple verses define the comprehensive scope of the Prophet’s mission, which begins with the recitation  of the revelation and culminates in the interpretation of the verses—particularly the concise or ambiguous ones (Mujmal)—and the legislation of practical rulings whose general principles are merely outlined in the Quran. Furthermore, the analyzed verses clearly demonstrate the definitive authority of the Prophetic Sunnah
