Abstract

Abstract:
The Noble Qurʾan, as a divine miracle, was revealed to liberate humanity from darkness into light. The verses related to lordship (rubūbiyyah), through their gradual revelation, contribute to the realization of this aim in terms of both vision and conduct. Lordship, derived from the name Rabb—meaning the owning, reforming, and nurturing Lord—expresses the dependence of all creatures upon God in both the creational and legislative dimensions. This study, employing a descriptive–analytical method, seeks to answer the question: “What is the frequency of the verses of lordship according to the order of revelation from a developmental perspective?”
The result of this inquiry is the identification of eight stages of transformation in the verses of lordship, in the following order: the oneness of lordship; lordship and the preparation of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him and his family); lordship and warning and glad tidings; lordship and doctrinal and practical obligations; lordship and human choice; the aspects of lordship; orientation toward lordship; and lordship and gratitude. An applied understanding of the verses of lordship through their developmental progression indicates the importance and necessity of this issue. Among the findings of this study is that arranging the verses of lordship according to their developmental course in the Noble Qurʾan carries multiple wisdoms, which are addressed within the context of the article.
